How to Cook Pizza
1 1/2 cups warm water (105°F-115°F)
1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
3 3/4 cups bread flour, plus more for dusting
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for brushing on the dough
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon sugar
In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
Stir in the flour, olive oil, salt, and sugar. Mix until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
Tomato Sauce Recipe
1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand
1/4 cup olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Once you have your dough and sauce ready, you can start assembling your pizza. Here are some ideas for toppings:
Margherita pizza: Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil.
Pepperoni pizza: Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni.
Sausage pizza: Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, sausage
Veggie pizza: Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, your favorite vegetables (mushrooms, onions, peppers, olives, etc.)
White pizza: No tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, your favorite white toppings (feta cheese, spinach, artichoke hearts, etc.)
Once you have your toppings assembled, bake your pizza in a preheated oven at 500-550 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
