How to Cook Pizza


  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (105°F-115°F)

  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

  • 3 3/4 cups bread flour, plus more for dusting

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for brushing on the dough

  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar


  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.

  2. Stir in the flour, olive oil, salt, and sugar. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12-inch circle.

Tomato Sauce Recipe


  • 1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper


  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Once you have your dough and sauce ready, you can start assembling your pizza. Here are some ideas for toppings:

  • Margherita pizza: Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil.
